Evaluating Esophagojejunostomy Anastomosis with Methylene Blue
نویسندگان
چکیده
ABST RACT Introduction: This study sought to determine the utility of the methylene blue test for evaluating esophagojejunostomy anastomosis. Materials and Methods: The study analyzed 65 patients with gastric cancer who underwent total gastrectomy and esophagojejunostomy anastomosis. The patients were divided into two groups. In Group A (n= 30), methylene blue was used to evaluate the esophagojejunostomy anastomoses, while in Group B (n= 35), radiological evaluation procedure was used. The presence or absence of anastomotic leakage in the two groups was determined. Results: The overall incidence of anastomotic leakage in the patients was 1.3% (2 of 65 patients). In Group A, leaks were seen in 1 (3.3%) of 30 patients, while in Group B, leaks were seen in 1 (2.8%) of 35. The methylene blue showed leakage in one case. Conclusion: Using methylene blue to evaluate esophagojejunostomy anastomosis appears to be a reasonable practice. This procedure is a suitable diagnostic test with a low complication rate that can be performed before reintroducing an oral intake.

End-to-end esophagojejunostomy versus standard end-to-side esophagojejunostomy: which one is preferable?
Abstract Background: End-to-side esophagojejunostomy has almost always been associated with some degree of dysphagia. To overcome this complication we decided to perform an end-to-end anastomosis and compare it with end-to-side Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy. Methods: In this prospective study, between 1998 and 2005, 71 patients with a diagnosis of gastric adenocarcinoma underwent total gastrec...
متن کاملThe efficacy of intraoperative methylene blue enemas to assess the integrity of a colonic anastomosis
BACKGROUND Intraoperative testing of colonic anastomoses is routine in assuring anastamotic integrity. We sought to determine the efficacy of the methylene blue enema (MBE) as an intraoperative test for anastomotic leaks. METHODS This study is a retrospective review of consecutive colonic operations performed from January 2001 to December 2004 in a community hospital setting by a general surg...
متن کاملComparison of Intracorporeal and Extracorporeal Esophagojejunostomy after Laparoscopic Total Gastrectomy for Gastric Cancer: A Meta-Analysis Based on Short-Term Outcomes
Background: Laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG) is increasingly performed in patients with gastric cancer. However, the usage of intracorporeal esophagojejunostomy (IEJ) following LTG is limited, as the safety and efficacy remain unclear. The present meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the feasibility and safety of IEJ following LTG. Methods: Studies published from January 1994 to January 2017 c...

Uretero-Pelvic Junction Obstruction (UPJO) is a common congenital anomaly that may need pyeloplasty to prevent renal function deterioration. The purpose of this study was to describe a modified use of jj stent catheter in pyeloplasty for infant with UPJO. A series of 12 children, between 3 and 10 months, underwent stenting open pyeloplasty. In each patient a 6 French Foley catheter was placed w...
متن کاملThe overlap method is a safe and feasible for esophagojejunostomy after laparoscopic-assisted total gastrectomy
BACKGROUND Laparoscopic procedures are increasingly being applied to gastric cancer surgery, including total gastrectomy for tumors located in the upper gastric body. Even for expert surgeons, esophagojejunostomy after laparoscopy-assisted total gastrectomy (LATG) can be technically challenging. We perform the overlap method of esophagojejunostomy after LATG for gastric cancer. However, technic...
